I have a 4 year old laptop (i5, 6mb) with Windows 7 Home that I would like to upgrade to Windows 10 when it is released via the free upgrade and preferably with a clean install. However I would also like to use this opportunity to upgrade from the hard drive to a SSD. Can I do them at the same time, or will have I have to one and then the other?

Solution
One, then the other, would be recommended.

Upgrade the current Win 7 to 10,
Then, you will be able to obtain an ISO file of Win 10.
Use that Win 10 ISO to install clean to the SSD.

Can you explain this a little better? from what im understanding you want to install windows 10 on an SSD? if that's the case then you should be able to with ease. Just delete the OS from your HDD and use the same product key for windows on your new SSD reserve windows 10 and you should be good to go

This doesn't involve a clean install on the SSD, as the OP desires.
