Can I upgrade windows vista full to windows 7 oem?

So I built my new pc yesterday and ordered a copy of windows 7 home premium oem version to install on it but the delivery is estimated to be the 16th and I don't want to wait that long.
I have a windows vista home premium (not oem) disk lying around and I was wondering if I would be able to install vista for now and then replace it with windows 7 when the disk comes? Are there any restrictions (legal and/or techincal) which stop me doing this?

you can download a windows 7 iso from the internet and burn it to dvd and use that to install windows, you have 30 days to activate it so when you receive it you can just put your key in.

just make sure to install home premium x64.
