Can I use 6+2 pin connector from PSU for a 8 pin GPU?

which has 2 x PCI 6+2 connectors, 2 x 6-pin

I ordered an MSI GTX 1060 : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137018&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-

and it requires 8 pin connector.

I've been running R9 270 that only uses a single 6 pin for 2 years, was wondering if I could use a 6+2 to connect to 8 ? My PSU obviously does not have a straight 8

The 6+2pin IS the 8pin which requires the GTX 1060.

6+2 = 8 no problem

Its simply a convenience to allow you to use the same cable for either a 6 or 8 pin connector

Nice card choice the 1060 is a good one and the XFX 550w is perfect to run it.​
