Can i use 720p monitor to play games

i need to wait until my borthday and i'm unsure weather i should get a 1080p monitor over my 720p monitor or an i5 4760k and can u game at 720p

You can use a 720p monitor to play games and they will run better than the 1080p counterpart, that said you will cave to compromise visual fidelity for that - 1080p is considered to be the PC standard these days if not a minimum.

By reading the post I am not sure if you really have an ultimatum.

What are all the options available here? 720P is fine, 1080P is noticeably better.

If you choose the 1080P monitor what cpu do you get in place of the 4690k?
