Can i use a 1333mhz ddr3 RAM in 1600mhz slot?

Solution

If it says it can use 1333 Mhz then yes. Otherwise, if it only says 1600 Mhz and on, then I would buy new RAM. Although, you can overclock your RAM to reach 1600 Mhz.

To save you the trouble, I would get 1600mhz RAM for good measures.

you can always run slower ram, the problems could start if it a lot faster than your mobo support( something like 2133, 2400 or more), but to give a better anwser your mobo supports ddr3 ram up to 1600mhz, there is no lower limit for memory support, if you wanted to you could set it to 800

Buying one stick of ram is not good. You need two sticks of IDENTICAL ram to run in dual channel mode.

sorry for posting in here and not opening new one, but i have the same question

i was about to buy 8GB 1333 (rather cheap deal is the only reason). would it fit in asrock fm2a88x extreme4+ mobo? how would just one stick of ram perform here?

why would it be better to put 2 4GB sticks in dual channel mode rather than this one of 8GB?

i am rather short on budget and i am looking for afordable solution, but one able to perform for games like skyrim, mass effect...

If you are using an AMD apu, then faster memory should be a priority - you want a minimum of dual channel 1866mhz 8gb.

I would only bother with the 1333 ram if you plan to use a graphics card. If you want to game using the APU graphics then dont bother, the APUs really need fast ram to get good graphics performance (as the graphics requires fast ram and uses the system ram).

Go for 2x4gb. By getting a single stick you are cutting your bandwidth in half, which will also drastically reduce your graphics performance.
