Can i use a 8 pin for a 6 pin

I have a z170-a motherboard and a gtx 1060, the 1060 has 6 pins in it, and the power supply is 8 for it, can i just the 8 on both sides cord and plug the 8 ping into the gpu? its a 2x3 in the gpu (the power cord thing is 2x3, then it has two other connecters to make it 8 that just arent connect but are connected by wires)

You can insert that cable into your gpu as long as you leave the 2 that won't fit out of the gpu. The card will only draw power from the 6 pins that are in it.

Most modern power supplies have 6+2 pin connectors so you plug in the 6 pin and leave the 2 pin st the card just hanging out.

Yeah your 8pin is probably a 6+2pin. As said above un clip the 2pin from the 6pin and plug the 6pin into the gpu leaving the 2pin hanging.

That psu should have all 6+2pins and one 4+4pin for cpu power. There are no solid 8pins at all. So use one of the 6+2pin cables to power your gpu without the +2pins attached.
