Can i use a battery charger as a power supply for a 12vdc timer input and the ou

I'm wondering if I can use a 12 volt battery charger ( just for testing ) I have a timer that the input voltage is 12 vdc and the output is also going to be 12 vdc I just want to test the timer before I install it on the end device?

As long as the load doesn't cause the charger to exceed its current limit it should work just fine.
