Can I use a dvi-d cable in my dvi-i slot

So I am looking to upgrade my graphics card hopefully in the next year or so. Sadly my budget dictates only a graphics card be changed and not a card and a monitor. My monitor has a DVI-I slot but all thew cards I find have DVI-D slots. Will the monitor work without the four prongs on the cable or is that extremely important? Basically my question is if I took a DVI-D connector and plugged it into the port that it fits minus four extra holes in the plug, then plug the DVI-D cable into the DVI-D port, would my monitor display images, or do I need adapters.

It will work. The monitor is designed so that it can accept the different types of DVI cables. It doesn't actually require all of those pins.

My monitor has DVI-I and VGA is it possible that my monitor is only analog

They wouldn't put a DVI input on it if it were only analog.
