Can I use a higher speed ram in a slower motherboard?

what happens if I put ram that is 1600 Mhz in a motherboard that says a maximum of 1333 Mhz or 1600 Mhz overclocked.

Will the ram not work or will i be stuck with 1333 Mhz speeds?

set the BIOS Memory profile for the higher speed RAM... That is the case on my system. 1333 normal and 1600 OC

If the motherboard says that it can run 1600 MHz overclocked then it can run 1600 MHz RAM. Basically, there is no official spec for DDR3 1600, so all 1600 MHz RAM is technically overclocked.
