Can I use a laptop charger to power my monitor?

My power adapter that I received with my asus PG287q doesn't work; it won't display anything past the splash screen.

I was looking for another adapter on line and found some with the same exact specs - same output volts and amps and output as the one I received from my monitor.

The plugs are also the same. So my question is, should I be concerned about anything and do other people use these for their monitors? Should I worry about the adapter being too hot or shorting the monitor?

Thanks

Personally i'd be very wary of any cheap replacement power adapters, an OEM one might be considerably more expensive but you're guaranteed it will work correctly and won't be potentially dangerous. Actually come to think of it, is the monitor still under warranty ? If it is then get Asus to replace the adapter

I always recommend you use OEM power adapters.

I have seen many motherboards fried due to cheap replacement or even worse universal power supplies (some even have dark brown burn marks at the DC jack).

It is pretty easy for those cheap brand replacement power supplies to slap a sticker on the box that says it is your PCs wattage, if it is or not who knows.

asus uses Delta to make their power supplies, if the power supply says ASUS on it, or if it is made by Delta then that should be fine, otherwise I would stay away.

What is the volts/watts/amps your monitor needs? Do you know what asus PC shares that plug/power needs?
