Can i use a sata 2 hdd for storage and a sata 3 ssd for gaming on the same mothe

I wish to order and install a sata3 SSD to store my games on, my motherboard has ports for both sata2 and sata3, if i am currently using a sata2 HDD in the sata2 port which has on my OS and my files would it be possible to use a sata3 SSD in the sata3 port and transfer my games onto that drive? i ask if this is possible on the motherboard to run a Sata2 HDD for storage and a sata3 SSD for games on the same motherboard because i dont want to buy a sata2 SSD. Please help me!!!
