I need a 4TB HDD to store movies and music using an external USB 3.0 case.
My first choice would be a WD Blue 5400 (WD40EZRZ) CMR, but for the same price
there is a Toshiba Surveillance 4TB (HDKPB08Z0101S) SMR.
Toshiba, although SMR, has a 3 year warranty and a huge MTTF/MTBF and seems to be more reliable,
as it is built for continuous use.
Will the Toshiba Surveillance HDD be the best option for storing and watching movies
or should I choose the WD Blue CMR ?
Thanks

I have used surveillance hard drive in a desktop PC .
However, a surveillance HDD is built to perform differently than a regular PC HDD.
While using them in desktop PCs, I have found that surveillance HDDs perform faster than desktop HDD while using less power.
I have never used them as external HDD for a prolonged time.
Since they are built for continuous use, I do not know if connecting them and disconnecting them constantly could have adverse results.
