Can I use a Windows 7 Upgrade Key on a Full version?

I have a key for Windows 7 Professional Upgrade version. My friend let me borrow his Full Version because I lost my CD. Will I be able to still activate Windows 7, or are the keys tied down to the type of Windows 7 Professional?

It may work to get 7 installed, but I'm 99% sure it won't activate.

Who loses a Win 7 DVD? How does that happen? Its all Gold and pretty and shiny....

You can install the full version of Win 7 from that install DVD without a key and you have a couple of days to enter the key. Install and see if it works.

I think I did this (I do too many of them to totally recall) and I *think* it complained (which means NO).

If you know anyone with an upgrade DVD that WILL work with your key. Its seems more likely to me you can find a friend with that... But I do recall it will have to upgrade something. There were some workarounds - but I dont know much about that...
