Can i use an 8pin graphics card in place of a 16pin

Currentlyusing radeon 5300 just got a geforce g710 but when i put it in pc monitor stays on stand help plz

Mobo is m2n68-la narra 3 with 1 pci express x16 slot but the gt 710 is x8, says on the 710 box requires correct pcie chipset drivers, wondering if this could be the problem but no idea where to get the 'correct' ome from. That is id that is the problem.
