Can I use an external Hard drive to record my gameplay?

So I want to record my games while I play but I am dealing with a 250gb hardrive and I do have a 1TB external hardrive USB 2.0 (I believe I have another one that is 3.0 but my computer does no support it). Would I be able to record and store my gameplay on it or would it make the mb/ps write speed significantly slower? Any reply is appreciated, thanks guys/gals!

Sure I dont see why not. If you just told the program you are recording with the drop the files on that storage location. Its going to use processing speed until it drop the file in the selected path, so it can drop performance when recording.
