Okay so i'm going to another stick of ram for my laptop it already has 4gigs of DDR3L ram but that isn't enough , so i'm buying a stick of 8 gig ram so i'll have 12 gigs of ram all together i'm just wondering if it would be okay if i buy a DDR3 stick of ram instead of a DDR3L because DDR3 is cheaper

Cheers

Some brands (and batch inside each brand) of DDR3 memory sometimes work with DDR3L voltage leves (1.35v instead the usual 1.5v), you could make a try.

You have three options, use DDR3 at 1.35v (the voltage of DDR3L) or have diferent voltages (one ram at 1.35v and another at 1.5v) or overvolt the DDR3L to 1.5v..

There are too many ifs to give you an answer...
If the MB allow normal DDR3

There are too many ifs to give you an answer...
If the MB allow normal DDR3
If the MB allow diferent settings for the RAM slots
If you could set the voltage in the bios for each slot (diferent voltages)
If the DDR3 you purchase is able to work on 1.35v
If your current DDR3L would not burn overvolted at 1.5v

I would just purchase a DDR3L.
