So
I have this Hp elitebook 8440p, it has a wireless and a Lan port. right now i am doing self isolation and i have my pc in my room rn. The trouble is that my lan cable isnt far enough to reach my router.
so i have this laptop that has a unused lan port. and i have a backup router in my room. the question is, can i wire my backup router to my laptop, and make that router work ?

Solution
If your laptop has both WiFi and Ethernet, and can get Internet thru WiFi - configure the laptop to "bridge" two networks, then connect an Ethernet cable between desktop and laptop.
And I will ask about the Ethernet cable: are you able to purchase or borrow a longer cable in order to directly reach the router?

How far away is the router? Obstacles?

Maybe disable that backup router's network functions and use the backup router as a switch so you can use existing/shorter Ethernet cables.

Generic example.

ISP ==== > Router -----Ethernet cable -----> "switch" (backup router) -- Ethernet cable ----> your pc

Update your post to include the respective routers' specs. Make, model, version.
