[SOLVED] Can I use Intel's stock cooler with any intel CPU?

I've upgraded from an i5 3570 to an i5 8400 and the stock cooler that came with the CPU is making a horrible noise as it constantly adjusts RPM from 2500 to 3500.

I have a feeling the fan is faulty because I never heard this with the last CPU fan, but admitedly my last CPU fan was always running the same RPM (due to it being plugged into my old mobo system fan socket and not the CPU fan socket, due to spacing issues at the time).

Can I use the stock Intel fan from my i5 3570 which I have been using for the last 5 years in place of this new one? Or is there a difference that will make this not advised? I assume not.

Solution
All LGA115x sockets use the same mounting hole spacing. The Ivy Bridge (3570) and Coffee Lake (8400) stock coolers are constructed basically the same way: radial aluminum fins with a copper slug and an 80mm fan. The 8400 is a hotter CPU, despite its lower TDP (65W vs. 77W for the 3570). This could be normal behavior for this cooler and CPU. But there's no harm in swapping in the old one.

Here's an Anandtech article on TDP ratings for recent Intel CPUs. If you want to dig around in your BIOS settings, you could get temperatures a bit more under control.
