Hi.
Recently my computer broke down and i found out the reason to be a faulty RAM slot. Apparently one of my RAM slots are not working. My question is : will using the other RAM slot only will harm my computer in any way? Remembering that the other one is not working. I have a spare 8gb RAM and am thinking of installing that in the one working slot.
PS. the other one is not working (computer wont boot if there is a RAM in that non working slot.)
Can i continue using my PC with that faulty slot or should i change my motherboard before any other problems, if any, should arise?
Any and all help with be greatly gratified.
Thanks guys.

Solution
Yes, it's completely fine if there are no other issues.
the only downside is a bit lower memory bandwidth (dual channel with single channel memory configuration), but that is usually unnoticeable in most workloads.
Yeah its definitely the slot. I had 2x2gb RAM. I tried switching both in the non working slot and yeah its the slot. Got two RAM slots.
I can use the one RAM slot and have a 8gb RAM right?

I did reset the bios and got nowhere. I'll clean it once and hope it works.
Thanks mate.
So its fine to use this motherboard even if lets say the RAM slot is permanently broken right?

Perfect.
Thanks for the precious time mate. Appreciate that. :)
