can i use msi afterburner with integrated intel graphics? I'm using a i5 3340m cpu with I think intel 4000 integrated graphics. i just want to monitor temps etc in game. no overclocking.

There would be no reason to monitor the temp, if your CPU temp is fine the integrated graphics temps are too.

afterburner works on my laptop, which is a dell latitude e5430

Use RealTemp CPU monitor. It runs in the taskbar. Very reliable, I've used it for years. It can sound an alarm or shut the system down if your CPU hits a certain temp (which YOU select).
