hey guys, I currently have a 256 gb m.2 samsung 950 pro, a 1 tb 7200 rpm hdd and a 500 gb 7200 rpm hdd in my system now. I am in the process of building a music production pc and and wondering if I can simply take the old hard drives out of my old computer and put them in the new one. Could I simply clone the drives to new drives and use them? My reason in I have a lot of sample libraries and vst plugins that I have collected over the years, and it would be impossible to track them all down again and re download. The only way I see is using my old drives in my new computer and simply put new drives in my old one to have as a second pc. Thanks guys

Update: I should mention that I am upgrading from a i 7 4790 to a i7 7700, therefore must change mobos.

Your main OS drive should be clean installed, along with any programs - but anything with raw data can be accessed just fine.

You can clone a drive(s), absolutely - but your OS should be configured for a new board/chipset.

That being said, there's not likely to be substantial gains moving from a 4790 to a 7700..... especially not to justify the ~$800 outlay in a new CPU/Board/RAM(DDR4) and OS (if you want to keep the OS active on the old setup)
