Can I use my lga 775 backplate with non-compatable AIO?

I have heard this a couple times, mostly on amazon reviews, and was wondering if it was possible. Could I use my hyper 212 evo mobo backplate w/ a liquid cooler such as the corsair 115i or NZXT kraken x61 to make it compatible with socket lga 775? I know corsair sells adapters, but that adds another $15 +shipping.

the hyper 212 evo backplate fits, I have it already and it does. I was just wondering if it would work with other coolers.
