So I was wondering if I could use my old monitor on my PC. The monitor is an old LG monitor with only a D-SUB input. I have a Ryzen5 1600 CPU which I know doesn't have intergrated graphics so I can run i through that and I have a Gtx 1070ti which only has HDMI and DVI outputs. I have a HDMI to D-SUB cable but it doesn't just work. Is there anything internally I need to do to make it work? I get a no signal recieved recieved and it turns off after a little time. So am I able to somehow use this monitor and if so how?
I do have a main monitor which I use fine just wanted to use it as a second monitor.
Appreciate any responses. :)

Well, the old analog 15-pin VGA connection is getting pretty old. Most video card outputs these days are digital, though sometimes the DVI connections have both digital and analog. What you need is an active adapter. A connector with a built in Digital to Analog conversion. They aren't terribly expensive. Another option if you don't want to game on it and just want to use it as an additional display is to get a USB video output which is basically a 2d video card that operates over USB. Some of those have VGA output and would work if you just needed a video adapter.

Also, the only Ryzen CPUs with video onboard at the moment are the 2200G, 3200G, 2400G, and 3400G.
