I recently broke up with my exgf and left my modem router there and just got New gateway from xfinity, well my problem is that my gateway is not supporting 2 xbox 360( roommate and mine) but I had no problem with multiple xbox on my previous setup. Now, my question is, can i just switch my current gateway with my old router/modem setup at her house with out any major problems or even better not having to put up with comcast customer service, our lack there of. Both houses use comcast/xfinity for internet service. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

Remember that the modem MAC address is tied to your account. It will probably work, but if she cancels service it will kill yours and vice versa unless you call customer service and have them activate the modem under your account. You can buy your own modem and do the same, you don't need to pay Comcast 7 bucks a month to lease their modem. Buy a Motorola surfboard or something and shave 7-8 bucks off your monthly bill in the process.

I've activated a couple of different modems with comcast, piece of cake. Agree that calling customer service is a futile endeavor!

Sweet thanks guys for your time and comments, I was trying to do without spending any money if possible but sounds like it may be easier to buy new... Now a second question, can i use my xfinity gateway as a modem to my new router? I've heard of opening a bridge or something like that to basically turn it into "just a modem". Is this possible or am I going to look forward to spending another $80 on a new modem also

You should be fine, if the modem has a wireless function but you want to use a different router you can just turn the wireless off on the modem. There isn't really anything special that you. Just access the modem via a browser, you probably have the default credentials unless someone changed them, and find the wireless options.
