yes?
NVlink doesn't require anything special from the motherboard other than that you need two PCIe X16 slots for two GPU's.

NVlink is a proprietary technology that allows two cards to be connected together and run in tandem by using an NVLink bridge which is a separate piece of hardware that handles the SLI.

NVLink is just a fancy new version of SLI. That's all.

that's crap. don't know who you were watching, but sounds like he doesn't know anything and is spouting off lies.

you can SLI with x8 on both cards just fine.
the maximum SLI potential is slightly limited compared to both cards running x16 but SLI will still work.

SLI can also run with one card being in x16 and the other being in x8 assuming your CPU has enough PCI lanes to support that.

Whoever it was on YouTube you were watching, I highly doubt they are worth watching in the slightest when it comes to information on technology.

The top contenders for info are:
Gamers Nexus
Linus Tech Tips
Jayz2cents
BitWit
Paul's Hardware

and there's others too that are fairly reputable but those are the big time major league guys.

Here's a video for benchmarks on SLI with 2080Ti's from Gamers Nexus where he goes on to do tests on performance in the three different SLI configurations of x16/x16 - x16/x8 - x8/x8
