Can I use onboar gpu to plug the monitor and play on other gpu?

Can I connect my monitor with the onboard gpu and use another gpu.I have Asus m5a78l m motherboard and I am going to buy an Asus Strix rx470. The rx470 doesnt have vga port but my only monitor has only vga . Can I connect my monitor to the onboard gpu and play games on the rx 470?

no. you'll need to buy an VGA-DVI adapter.
(if the 470 comes with a DVI port)

You're going to need to update your monitor to get the full benefits of adding a GPU to your rig. You can use a active DVI-D to VGA adapter, but it's not good to look nearly as good as having a 1080p monitor with the correct digital inputs (DVI-D, HDMI or DisplayPort).
