My laptop's ssd slot says it can support a m.2 PCIE nvme. But, If I want to, can I use a sata ssd on it? Laptop is Asus GL503GE.
Ssd slot is may be 2280

I'm seeing that M2 slot is strictly PCIe.

https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/ROG-Strix-GL503/specifications/

Here is what it says...
Solid state drive:
256GB/512GB PCIe® Gen3 x4 SSD

Although it also says it can take a SATA SSD 3.0....but that's not the M2 slot.

M2, mSATA, PCI-e x1 these are not exactly the same size but they more lookalike especially M2 and mSATA

Laptops comes with mSATA most of the time for sure i won't fit a desktop class PCI X1 anyway
