Hello

i want to add an additional SSD to my main workstation and checked on the SSD Intel 600p Series - 512GB- M.2 which has an PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4 connector
So i was wondering if i can connect it to mt X99 SLI CF mainboard, as it says on the gigabyte software that it could be connected to:
NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 22110 M.2 Interface & U.2 Interface for Intel® SSD 750

It sounds like only that particular SSD could be connected

Maybe i'm just confused, but i rather ask here at the forum before buying it

Thanks

Hello Uwe3dr,

If we compare the Motherboard's supported list of SSDs ( http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Document/mb_m.2_support_x99.pdf ) against the specifications of the one you chose ( https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/consumer-ssds/600p-series/600p-512gb-m-2-80mm-3d1.html ), everything fits, you shouldn't have any trouble placing it on this motherboard, even though the SSD isn't in the list. The motherboard can support other M.2 PCIe NVMe 3.0 SSDs of this size (2280), so I can say that the Intel 600p SSD is compatible with this Gigabyte motherboard.

Just to let you know, so that you won't be spending for features that suddenly you cannot use/achieve:

Your Gigabyte X99 SLI will only run the M.2 PCIe3.0 x4 SSD in x2-speeds (not x4) as the M.2 socket shares bandwidth with other lanes/slots of that particular mobo. Also, if you populate the M.2 socket, two of your SATA ports will be disabled (consult your manual which SATA ports these are to avoid disabling any HDDs/SSDs connected on those ports).

The Gigabyte X99P SLI is the board that supports M.2 PCIe3.0 x4 SSD in x4-speeds.

I am not sure which one of the Gigabyte boards you have, the X99 SLI or the X99P SLI.
