Hey currently im using HP 198E Motherboard from a HP computer with i3 4150. Im planning to upgrade my i3 4150 to i7 4790k or any other processor with lga 1150. Will it work? or i have to buy new motherboard?

Solution
hang on... ! that is not always true with Dell motherboards!

according to the specs on this motherboard can handle up to a TDP of 84W, the I7 4790K has a TDP of 88W, either will not run or burn out your motherboard in short time. aside that the motherboard will not utilize the full power of the K chip abilities anyways. why waste monies when you can save and get about the same power for less.

your motherboard will permit you to install an I7 Intel Core i7-4790 (Haswell) 3.6 GHz Quad Core which is 84 W , I would get that CPU instead.

I can't find a spec sheet for the HP motherboard you listed. However, if the processor is the same socket type as your current processor, then yes, the motherboard should still be compatible.

According to the spec sheets I was able to look up from Intel's website, the Intel I3 4150 and the I7 4790K both use FCLGA1150 sockets. So if you were able to use the former CPU on your current motherboard, then you should be good to go. Your current board should be compatible with the new CPU.

1. That link just takes me back to this thread.
2. As I pointed out, it ultimately doesn't matter. CPUs that use the same socket type are compatible on the same motherboard. The two CPUs the OP mentioned both have the same socket type. Therefore, in response to the OP's question "Can I use this [current] motherboard," the answer is "yes, there is a 99.99% chance that you can."

well your wrong and will not continue to argue with someone that isn't informed.
