Do you want to keep the data? Then don't use it, IMO. Disks don't get "better" over time, they get worse.

A "backup" is a second or third copy of data.
Never the "only" copy.

If you feel comfortable using a known failing drive as your "backup"...that's all on you.
I wouldn't.

So the first pick of the SMART data has nothing to do with what you're going to do?

You're asking if a 3.5" HDD is "safe" to use, sitting on a desk with that USB cable and power attached?
I wouldn't, except for very temporary use. Too easy to knock off the desk.
