can i use two 4GB 1600mhz ram and a 8GB 1600mhz ram together?

at the moment, i have 8GB total (2x4GB), i want to upgrade to 16GB but is it possible if i buy a 8GB 1600mhz ram and install it with 2x4GB ram installed? here is the motherboard i have Asus P8Z77-V LX, i know it supports up to 32GB but only need 16GB, thanks! this is my 1st forums ever xD, im 16 btw.

If you a buy a new ram than you can see which is your old ram speed means ( mhz ) .. than its different your ram could not work ..

You can but it won't be very effective because of single channel mode.

If you have 2 more slots your better off going with another 2x4GB set so you can keep that DC. Otherwise that 8GB stick will slow your system down.

Using 2 x 4 GB memory in one channel (say, slots 1 & 2), and using the 8 GB memory in the other channel (slot 3, for example), and IF the modules have identical parameters otherwise, then the memory might run in dual channel mode. But if the module parameters are not close enough, then memory will operate in single channel mode.
