I currently have 8GB RAM installed and I know my processor has two Dimm slots. Here is a link -http://us.msi.com/product/mb/760GMP34_FX.html#hero-specification

I'm not entirely sure if one slot has 2 4gb sticks or 1 8gb stick. I need to know if I can fit two 4gb sticks in one dimm slot basically. Also is there a way to tell what I currently have installed. Not sure what to look for. Thanks. :)

Hi

Download cpu Z. Software get 32 or 64 bit version according to windows version

Your 8 GB could be 1 x 8 GB or 2 x 4 GB
You can't have 2 in 1 slot
If 1x 8gb you can probably add an additional 4 or 8 GB module in other slot

Or open the box and look in side

Check out at crucial web site what type of ram modules are compatible with your motherboard

1 stick per dimm slot. Without opening up the side of the computer, check your bios. That will tell you everything you need to know on the first screen.

If you open up the side of your computer and you see two sticks, then you have 2x 4gb. If you see 1 stick then you have 8gb.

In theory yes it could work. It is not advised. Mix matching ram is not and good idea and not advised. It can cause instability problems. Random crashes, blues error screens and you wont get the most out of your ram as a compatible single, dual or quad memory kit.
Hope this helps.

There are 2 slots for the ram.

Remove your currently memory and look at the specifications to buy the same one if you are adding just one more stick. Keep the same one so you won't have compatibility issues...

If you are buying 2 new ones make sure to buy the ones your motherboard accepts it: DDR3 1066/1333/1600/1866

It looks like I have 2 x4gb so if I desired an upgrade with two dimm slots to work with I would need 2 x8gb for each slot.

According to CPU-z I have 1 4gb in each dimm slot. It also says it's DDR3.

If I wanted to upgrade to 16 I would need to replace both sticks. As long as I have DDR3 I won't run into compatibility issues, correct?
