Can I wash a 1080 ti video card normally with water?
I already washed a video card and it was fine after worked like before but my father says don't wash this one coz its expensive and he's not buying a new one I don't like listening to him but if he's right I can't play games if I don't

Is he right? Last I washed was nvidia video card also did they remove the waterproof feature or I was just lucky last time or I can just wash it and it will be fine and my father has no idea what he's talking?

Just leave it be.
Wait until you get some canned air, and just blow the dust off.
Welcome to the forum, while you probably could I don't understand why you'd need to. Canned air and some Qtips to get those hard to reach places should be more then enough for cleaning. I don't blame your father about being cautious as those cards are quite expensive, especially now with mining/shortage the pricing is insane.

You don't have $6 to go to your local grocer and get some jugs of distilled? It's not expensive. A critical problem with tap water is it has minerals in it - which even if it is 100% dry can deposit those electroconductive minerals and it could ruin your card through shorts. Distilled water is pure and lacks the ions/minerals that lead to electrical conductivity - ergo it's likely to be far safer to use if you're going to wash your hardware as it's not liable to deposit anything on the card once it's dry.

If you're going to wash it, which I would consider extremely ill-advised (why not just blow it out w/ canned air or an air-pressurizer if your dad has one?) then normal or mineral water would be a very bad idea and I expect you may come to regret it.

I'll be frank: wanting to wash your card is abjectly stupid and virtually certain to result in sad days for you. They are not cheap and whatever is compelling you to risk a $1000+ card should be severe to warrant this consideration. If, against all sense you do decide to wash it.... for the love of all that is good, use distilled water. I will make no guarantees, but anything else you'd use is virtually certain to wreck it. This will just maybe wreck it. Better odds for an awful idea.

You were very lucky last time.

I've washed a keyboard before. Fully disassembled, soak in soapy water, rinse for a LONG time. Let dry for several days.
No problem. And it was a cheap keyboard, so it didn't really matter if it broke.

A GPU? Not a chance.

I agree with dad. Do not do this.

Why the desire to wash this? What is wrong with it?

Hi thanks for the welcome :)

I have no really important reason I was just cleaning my computer and saw the video card and wondered if i can just wash it
Its not particularly dusty (not that old)

I don't really know how to remove the cooler my father sure does but he's just so against the whole thing he wants to just leave it and play some cod coop xP

All the shops near are closed and I got no driving licence lol so I can't buy more cleaning stuff
