using PCIe Adapter, M.2 NVME SSD to PCI Express 3.0 x4

I want to buy Crucial P1 500GB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD

QNINE NVME PCIe Adapter, M.2 NVME SSD to PCI Express 3.0 x4

Don't be taken in by huge MB/s numbers. MB/s is the inverse of how you perceive speed - how many seconds you have to wait for an operation to complete. So really, drives should be compared based on sec/MB or sec/GB. When you do that, the huge MB/s numbers become tiny time differences.

125 MB/s HDD = 8 sec/GB
250 MB/s SATA 2 SSD = 4 sec/GB (4 sec faster than a HDD)
500 MB/s SATA 3 SSD = 2 sec/GB (6 sec faster than a HDD, a 2 sec improvement over the above)
1000 MB/s PCIe SSD = 1 sec/GB (7 sec faster than a HDD, a 1 sec improvement)
2000 MB/s NVMe SSD = 0.5 sec/GB (7.5 sec faster than a HDD, a 0.5 sec improvement)

Notice how every time MB/s doubles, the reduction in wait time is only half the previous step? The bigger MB/s gets, the...

it will not be bootable. as a secondary drive it will work fine and fast, but it CANNOT be the windows boot drive.
the adapter does not have a boot ROM and the BIOS does not support booting to PCIe. cannot replace but you can add it to the system.
an SATA SSD would work just as well. unless you were benchmarking you would be hard pressed to tell the difference, especially with only one drive, NVME to NVME copy/transfer is there the speed really is

for Operating system I am already using the old SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB

for files and games, I want the m.2 NVMe SSD

I don't want to use SATA because it has a bottleneck and I will not get blazing fast speeds
the NVMe PCI Express 3.0 x4 maybe will allow me to have Fill speed of the NVME SSD

For games, you will absolutely not notice the 'speed' of the NVMe vs a SATA III SSD.

File copying? That is dictated by the slowest device in the chain, not the fastest. Copying from a 840 EVO to a 970 EVO is no faster than from an 840 EVO to another 840 EVO.

A SATA 2 SSD gives you 53% the wait time reduction of a 2 GB/s NMVe SSD
A SATA 3 SSD gives you 80% of the wait time reduction
A 1 GB/s PCIe SSD gives you 92% of the wait time reduction

On top of that, the above only applies to sequential read/write speeds. For small files, you're limited by the 4k read/write speeds, which are about 50 MB/s for reads, 100 MB/s for writes. So your NVMe SSD will be no faster at small file read/writes than a SSD on SATA 2.

And it's actually the 4k read/write speeds which usually make the most noticeable difference in typical tasks. They're the slowest operation, so you end up waiting the longest for them to complete. Imagine you needed to read 200 MB of 4k data and 1 GB of sequential data. If you had to choose between a SATA 3 SSD with 50 MB/s 4k reads and 500 MB/s sequential reads, or a NVMe SSD with 30 MB/s 4k reads and 3 GB/s sequential reads, which do you think will be faster? The NVMe SSD, right? Its sequential speeds are 500% faster, while its 4k speeds are only 40% slower. And there's 5x more sequential data to be read, bumping its advantage up to 2500% vs 40%. So obviously the NVMe SSD must be faster, right?

SATA: (200 MB / 50 MB/s) + (1000 MB / 500 MB/s) = 4 sec + 2 sec = 6 sec
NVMe: (200 MB / 30 MB/s) + (1000 MB / 3000 MB/s) = 6.67 sec + 0.33 sec = 7 sec

Surprise! Just get a good SATA SSD with fast 4k speeds and you'll be fine.

So I will not notice any speed change between [PCI Express 3.0 x4 NVMe SSD's] and [SATA III SSD]

I will go with the save selection .. the SATA III SSD, my motherboard is Old
