Can it be done? erase a 2nd hard drive installed on a system

I am looking to wipe a 40 gig 5400 rpm hdd from a work system that I plan to put xp on for my nephew.

I need to know if I can hook this up on my home machine and access the drive to just wipe it?

You should be able to plug it in and your desktop will probably find it. Just make sure you have the boot sequence correct for your primary hard drive to be before the new hard drive. Then use windows to format the drive. You can also do this with the installation disk for windows, it will let you format the drive you install xp on.
