[SOLVED] can Just replace the HDD in my laptop with a fresh one?

It's dying. the HDD that is. if I all the data on my 5 year old alienware can I just open it up and replace it?

if the OS is an OEM version that is pre-registered you would need to get a backup install disk from the manufacturer(Alienware).

or you can make a clone of the current disk and load it onto a new disk.

i would guess it is out of warranty by now?
if so, go ahead and just open it up and add a nice SSD.
if not, opening it can void any warranty in place.
