Can Lenovo thinkpad X220 start without express card?

I have lost express card for my Lenove thinkpad X220, Please advise if its possible to start machine without it??

The express card should not be needed to have the laptop run, unless you have one that was configured for secure boot like a token. Or do you mean you lost the cover to the express card slot?
