Can Low CPU Voltage Core Cause Games to Crash

Hi all,

Fairly new to overclocking and just started overclocking my i5 6600k. I also recently upgraded to a used gtx 1080ti and hope this is not the cause of my problems. While I do plan to do more extensive testing, I was wondering if a voltage core thats too low can cause games to crash? I noticed this with both Doom and Deus Ex. After about 10 minutes of playing them the game crashes to desktop (No BSOD). I have been OCing to 4.4ghz with a 1.25 vCore. Just wondering if this could be caused by having too low of a voltage core and if so why?

Yep... Too low voltage with too high an overclock can absolutely make a game crash... When you OC, you need to use some sort of stress test to make sure your OC is stable and you need to run it for a while. A lot of people want to run it for like 24 hours to "make sure" it is a good OC...

Personally, I like to push my chip to the limit to see what it can do, then dial it back quite a bit for every day use... So for those lesser day to day OC's, I don't worry about testing it for prolonged times and only play with it if I have a problem...

In your case, sounds like you have a slightly unstable OC... Since it goes for a while before crashing, I'd either up the voltage slightly or drop the speed a little... If your cooling solution is fine, upping the voltage would be my first step to stabilize things..

Definitely. After choosing your voltage/clock speed, always run a stress test and make sure you don't experience any crashes.
