Question Can motherboard be broken in one place but still work everywhere else

My pc was hit on the right side (where all the wires are) and my pc froze. When I try to power it back on the motherboard lights show up saying there is a problem with my cpu, but could it be my motherboard or is my cpu broken

I’d say motherboard damage would be more likely. However have you tried reseating the cpu? A cpu with cooler attached can be knocked loose.

Also the fans turn on but no lights (this is the exhaust fan which is connected to the motherboard
