can Motherboard: NEW! Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3 do SLI?

Hi i'm getting this mobo and it has x2 pci 3.0 slots, will it SLI x2 GTX 970's? ftw edition too? also can it do tripple GPU SLI with all 970s and still do SLI with the third gpu on a 2.0 slot? will there be a performance drop if it is on a 2.0 slot?

Most Z97 boards can only do PCIe 3.0 8x/8x when in crossfire or SLI. The 3rd PCIe 2.0 slot is not directly connected to the others and can't be used for SLI and Crossfire.

There are some expensive boards with PLX chips that allow for triple and quad SLI on the Z97 platform, but you are looking at above $300.. Better to go with an X99 board at that point.
