I have a ASRock Fatality 990FX killer motherboard configured at dual channel with 2X4GB. After a year of my RAM can not handle my daily average usage. I usually have around 1.65GB unused if were just downloading a Game on Steam while playing hearthstone or just web surfing.

My motherboard memory maximum capcity is 64GB which is awesome but it says it supports
DDR3 Dual Channel. I wonder if I could run quad channel as an upgrade. I have 4 RAM slots. In the manual, it has a diagram depicting 4 RAM slots being used. Now I'm confused which is right. Its so misleading. Please help me someone.

Best bet would be go with a 2x8GB set, (slightly better performance wise than 4x4GB) which will still be dual channel, and could try adding the old for more, use the old in another rig or sell to recoup some of your expenditure. If you try adding another 2x4GB (even of the same exact model) there is no guarantee the new will play with the old
