Hi all,

I'm looking to get a HTC Vive to run mid level Arch Viz, any help with upgrading my set up would be kindly appreciated.

My specs are:

CPU- Intel Core i5-4670K - 3.40 GHz

Motherboard- ASUS Z87-K

Ram- 16GB DDR3

PSU- 450w

Graphics Card - Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti

I think the CPU might hold up with a GTX 1060, but I am unsure of the Motherboard.

Thanks again.

Buzzy

Companies that make motherboards, including ASUS, almost always have a full CPU support list for each motherboard on their website.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Its an "SuperFlower FX Series ATX Power Supply 450 Watt 80 PLUS®" :/

The 1060 isn't particularly power-hungry, but you ought to be OK, since you'll usually be around 300W at load. But I'd still keep a replacement PSU in mind long-term; this isn't one of the modern Super Flower platforms that you see in the high-end EVGAs, but a much older group-regulated design. It's a definite step ahead of the junk tier, but it's still rather unimpressive, though not actually dangerous.

I agree with the quality of this PSU, its not ideal.

It looks as though I may have to upgrade PSU, graphics card & potentially CPU. Oh dear!:pt1cable:

I think I will purchase the gcard and a PSU and see how it copes with the level of complexity of my VR environments, I may have to look to an I7 CPU as well.

One more quick question. Can my motherboard handle an I7 CPU??

Cheers for the help guys!

Yup. It's a Z motherboard so you can overclock it as well.

Thanks for all the advice people!

Just out of intersest. How do you determine what CPU's are compatible with Motherboards? For example, how would I find out what CPU my ASUS Z87-K motherboard can run?

It will save everyone the time to answer my questions, if I could work it out my end lol
