[SOLVED] Can my desktop run a 1600mhz RAM if my Processor uses 1600mhz as well ?

Hey guys, i was just wondering if i can get your help, i plan on adding more RAM into my Desktop, my desktop is not that high end at all, i just use it for work. I plan on adding 8GB ram on it. i do know that i need to get a DDR3 for it, however, im having trouble of which Clock speed should i have. Should i have a 1600 ? 1333? or a 1066 to be sure. Our local shops here in our town only has 1600mhz. So im having trouble finding one or should i just buy a 1066 to be sure. Currently it only has 2GB RAM, which is so low. So i really need to add more and upgrade it. ive done my research as well but there are so many claims and articles online that i dont know which one should i follow. So i hope that you guys can help me with this. Im using a ThinkCentre M58 6258 Desktop Lenovo. I also checked the CPU-Z and my Processor Runs at 1600mhz as shown in the picture. So i was hoping you guys can help me with what RAM should i buy. im really scared that i might just waste my money on a 1600mhz when its not compatible with it. So i really need you suggestions. If you buy 1600mhz,it either run on 1600mhz,but if the motherboard doesnt support it,it will just run at 1333mhz or 1066mhz,whatever you motherboard supports.

But after seeing your picture and seeing that DRAM frequency is set to 532mhz,double that and and your ram is running at 1066mhz.So it will run at 1066mhz.

Turn off your computer, take the side panel off, put your hands inside and take out the ram, take a picture of it and bring it back to me.
On the cpu-z app, click on mainboard, screenshot it and bring it back as well, once we get this we can tell you what will work and won't work for you.

Being an older lga775 based system, the key thing about memory will be the density of the modules. Newer modules typically used newer and higher densities, which more than likely will not be compatible. Best bet for an older system like this is to find used ram--ideally the lenovo fru or cru that's going to guarantee compatibility. Lenovo is also really great about giving all the fru/cru numbers in the service manual found here:

I would start with the fru/cru and find either a used set of these or compatible ones.

Nice! Usually the 'value' series are not as compatible, but this set is confirmed working--great work!

It should throttle down as needed since it's compatible.

Hmm when I was using am3/+ a long time ago the msi mobo's I used would throttle down the speed of my ram if I didn't support it so in his case it should work. :/

Most ram today will auto-detect what speed it can run at since it has the slower speed and timings built-in as well. But yes, I too remember the days of manual settings.

I would also ask what operating system you're running (32-bit vs. 64-bit) and that you understand that you are limited to 8GB max RAM install (4x2GB modules) IF you're running a 64-bit OS.

You mean they're limited to 8GB when installing? Or something else?

The system limit is actually 16GB (4GBx4), but 32-bit OS limit is 4GB (maybe this is what you meant?)

This (and other sites) tells me four slots with the largest RAM module being 2GB. Hence 8GB Max RAM installed (4x2GB).
Of course, if the OP is using a 32-bit OS, then 4GB is the max addressable memory space.

Gotcha. Yeah, that was the limit in that era when other modules didn't exist. I think it will go to a full 16GB no problem since the user in this thread got to 10GB using the kingston modules linked above and because compuram also lists 16GB as the max, and they're pretty good about validating higher than stock max ram:
