my laptop has a Nvidia Geforce GTX 850m graphics card a i7 processor 8gb of ram could it run DayZ on medium setting?

Yes,dayz has very low requiriments,but you may encounter problems because the game is in prealpha version and has perfomance issues.But in general yes your laptop is powerfull enough for dayz.Try to search on youtube about dayz and your gpu to see more details.
