XMP should work as intended on all Z170 motherboards, regardless of which CPU I think.
Don't assume, know this, The CPU is rated for these memory types.
DDR4-1866/2133, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V
I know the board supports 3000MHz however you need to know that XMP OC profiles are not a JDEC memory standard and not necessarily recognized by the chip.
Which Skylake CPU doesn't support it then?
Anyways, for OP, will work fine with an i7-6700k.
ARK Intel.com list the specs for all Intel CPUs. There chips are binned and rated for chips ability to support various frequencies. Go here:

Skylake does scale very well with high DRAM Frequency and I know that Intel i7-6700K have official support as listed above.
My advice is that if your going to purchase a high frequency kit than officially supported, you take a risk so ensure you can return the Kit if the system will not recognize the XMP profile or the system won't boot consistently.
As there is very little to gain with higher frequency OCed DIMMs. Very often they won't play fair and for a beginner its very frustrating and you pay more for them.
