I have an ASUS TUF GAMING X570 PLUS. Asus specifies that it can run ram speeds of 4400(O.C)/3466(O.C.)/3400(O.C.)/3200(O.C.)/3000(O.C.)/2933(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666/2400/2133 MHz Un-buffered Memory.

I was thinking about buying some 3600 MHz sticks, but will the motherboard only run them at 3466 MHz then?

And perhaps unrelated to motherboards what ram would be best to get? Pairing with a ryzen 5 3600 and GTX 2070.

  • 16GB 3200 MHz CL16
  • 16GB 3600 MHz CL18
  • 32GB 3200 MHz CL16

I understand 32GB is better than 16GB of the same speeds is it worth almost double the cost?

It should be able to run at 3600mhz. But it's considered overclocking. So - no guaranties.

32GB is better only, if you need it and your system will be able to use it. If it just remains unused, then it is not better. Depends on your workload and what you do with your pc. For pure gaming pc 32GB is overkill.

I suppose you are using 3rd gen Ryzen, as somebody already checked it running 5000MHz RAM, 3600MHz is not a problem, I'm running it right now. MB will run it that fast too. Just set DOCP and go.
  • 16GB 3600 MHz CL18 is what I would go for.

Yes I misspoke a little, what I meant to say is that there is no drawback in having 32 GB rather than 16 I suppose? As I'm only going to game then I guess 16GB will be fine. Thanks!

Yes, a Ryzen 5 3600. I am under the impression that the motherboard dictates what ram speeds can be used. And since 3600 MHz wasn't specified I was unsure.

I will go with the 3600 MHz memory then. Thanks!

It's actually BIOS that dictates how fast RAM can be used. In case of that MB. looks like 4400MHz RAM is fastest RAM it supports but any RAM should work at any lower speed. It could be set automatically using XMP/DOCP or manually.
