Hi everyone!

I couldn't find this on the search option so I'll go ahead and post.

I'm planning on upgrading my current SSD (kingston sa400m8120g m.2) which i believe is not NVME, to a Samsung 970 evo 1TB nvme m.2 drive, I'm struggling to find the correct information to ensure my laptop can support it. The reason for my asking is that otherwise I'll get a TeamGroup ms30 1TB SSD which is also not NVME, I believe? I realise the read/write speeds aren't great on this compared to the samsung 870 but it will be better than the current HDD I have which takes up the only 3.5" bay.
The laptop was a custom built cyberpower pc which I bought secondhand and have not been able to find any manuals at all on the laptop itself.
It's motherboard is a Quanta NL5E, does anybody know if this can support an nvme drive?
i78750H 16gb ddr4 and an RTX 2070 so the modernity of the components says it should, but I'm not sure.

I've also heard that people have had trouble booting using a usb, but I'll cross that bridge when it comes to it!

Many thanks!

Hi, that looks to be the laptop, yes. So is the "M.2 2280 S-ATA/PCIe Gen3x4 interface" NVMe compatible?

I'd realised I had put 870 rather than 970, my mistake.
It appears so.
That M.2 port will take either a SATA III M.2 drive (860 EVO) or NVMe M.2 drive (970 EVO).

For starters the 870 Evo is a 2.5 inch SATA drive not M.2/NVMe. You would have to open up the motherboard and see if you can see any M.2 connectors if you can't find any manuals/data for the specific laptop/motherboard combo.

Does the Cyberpower laptop have a model number/name?

This device?

If so...

One changeable 2.5“ 7mm(H) HDD/SSD, SATA interface
One M.2 2280 S-ATA/PCIe Gen3x4 interface
