Question Can my PC do 1440P gaming?

I'm looking at getting a new monitor and its 2560 by 1440 170hz and I'm wondering if my PC can get decent performance running 1440P and if I were to use the monitor at 1080P would it still look good?

Ryzen 5 5600,
RX6600 8GB,
16GB vengeance LPX

That build is far more suited for gaming at 1080P. With that said there's some good 1080P 180Hz IPS gaming monitors going for $100 USD.

I had a feeling It was going to be better for 1080p but wasn't fully sure and the monitor I'm looking at is the MSI G273CQ. And if there are at least 144Hz 27" monitors for not that much just let me know. Currently I have a Samsung 27" 60Hz second monitor and my main is the Asus VQ248QE and I want a 27".

It can game at 1440p. Some games will do well, others will not.

A 1440p monitor will not look as good at 1080p as a native 1080p monitor. You are spreading an image out over multiple pixels which results in a less sharp image. If you get the 1440p monitor, you will want to upgrade your GPU at some point.

I say get the 1440p monitor you want. If you are unhappy with the performance, and you may be okay with it, sell your RX 6600 and get something faster.

It can game at 1440p. Some games will do well, others will not.

A 1440p monitor will not look as good at 1080p as a native 1080p monitor. You are spreading an image out over multiple pixels which results in a less sharp image. If you get the 1440p monitor, you will want to upgrade your GPU at some point.

Current graphics card is fast enough for it in most titles, prior to that had a 1080ti. 1080p on it looked good so it really depends on the monitor and how it scales. But even with 1080ti, 1440p still performed well, it's not a huge stretch over 1080p, not like 4k.

What i mainly come here to say is my experience with 27" 1440p has been great, had the monitor for many years now and size wise is much better than 24". Also there's no real need for extra image sharpening, as in anti aliasing, have never used it in any game since having the monitor, don't notice the need and some more fps has a result.

That's good to know. I've also been looking at the MSI G27C4X and I'm not looking for a super high refresh rate. It just happens that this monitor is not that expensive.

Curved is a matter of preference, at 27" immersive viewing might full a bit short unless your face was close. You'd have to search for user experiences at that size, i feel for curve to make difference would have to start from 30 or 32".

Another thing though, i would avoid VA. High refresh rates and it's frame generation make motion look bad. We get that a lot here complaining 144hz or whatever feels like 60. Find out it's a VA panel. I encourage more vigorous research before buying that panel type. I'd prefer IPS, flat. LG make some good mid tier monitors like their UltraGear line.

Monitors are a lengthy investment so id try choose something you'd really enjoy, even if it's a little more expensive.

What about something like an Acer Nitro? I know they make good monitors but want a second opinion. And I'm trying to stick to a $200 budget.

Can't go wrong with flat and IPS panel at 27". IPS do have it's typical glow in black black screens, just don't have brightness set at 100% is all. Acer Nitro is fine.
