Can my PC handle a 144hz monitor?

Here are my specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500 (3.30 GHz)
RAM: 8GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (4GB)

I'm pretty sure the GPU can handle it but I'm worried about my CPU.

I mainly want to be able to run CS:GO at 144hz on 1920x1080 with high FPS.

Thanks in advance!

The amount of CPU bottleneck varies a lot by the game, and the settings in the game you choose.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just tweak your graphics settings and enjoy your game.

If you want to use VSYNC OFF then it doesn't matter too much.

If you want to use VSYNC ON (to avoid screen tear) but can't maintain 144FPS then you can either:
a) drop a few settings, or

b) use Adaptive VSYNC (force in for the game in NVidia Control Panel-> Manage 3d settings... )

The adaptive method will toggle VSYNC on or off if you can't output 144FPS.

Other:
I suggest you use the "Half Adaptive VSync" method for games where it makes sense. You'll then be at 72FPS VSYNC'd. Basically if you can't stay above 144FPS but also don't want screen tearing.
