hey guyz i am about to buy a graphic card that is ASUS GRAPHICS CARD GTX 760 DC II OC EDITION but i wanted to know that can my psu can power this gpu or not?

my current specs:

i5 2500k
intel dh67bl motherboard
500gb hardisk
8gb ram
32inc lcd tv 1080p
PSU- coolermaster thunder 500w

so, my psu is coolermaster thunder500w can it power 760?

Solution
The ASUS GTX 760 DirectCU II OC 2 GB [GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5] only has one 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector on the card.

You don't need to buy or use any adapter cables.

That single 150W (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector from the PSU can be plugged directly into the graphics card.

From your original description I thought you needed two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors from the PSU but that isn't the case. I looked at several reviews of the ASUS GTX 760 DirectCU II OC 2 GB [GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5] and they all show that the card has a single 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector.

thanks for your kind reply, but my psu has 1x6pin is it safe to use molex?

For a system using a single GeForce GTX 760 graphics card NVIDIA specifies a minimum of a 500 Watt or greater system power supply that has a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 30 Amps or greater and that has at least two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Sufficient Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) rated at 45°C - 50°C ambient temperature, is the most critical factor.

Overclocking of the CPU and/or GPU(s) may require an additional increase to the maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current ratings, recommended above, to meet the increase in power required for the overclock. The additional amount required will depend on the magnitude of the overclock being attempted.

The Cooler Master Thunder 500W (RS-500-ACAB-M3) power supply unit, with its maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 34 Amps and with one 150W (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector, is sufficient to power your system configuration with a single GeForce GTX 760 graphics card.

Since one 150W (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector is able to supply the same amount of power as two 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connectors you can use a PCIe Y-splitter cable like the following: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812198018

Again confused! So I should stay with this psu ?

so its a good news for me isn't it?
so how to know that my psu is having 8pin or 6pin? sorry but iam little noob in all this:??:

Yes it's good news.

I just went to Cooler Master's website and looked up the Thunder 500W RS-500-ACAB-M3. It actually says that your PSU has PCI-e 6+2 Pin x 2. that means that your PSU has two (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors. Originally, when I checked RealHardTechX's specs for that PSU, it said that specific model only had one.

no my psu is only having one 6+2 pin i just checked so , then also its fine to power asus gtx 760 ?

this one what iam actually having:

http://www.coolermaster.in/product.php?product_id=6735

and the asus websites says that we need 'up to 225W1 additional 8 pin PCIe power required' what that means??

Yes, it's fine.

On Cooler Master's Global website the main web page for the product says one (6+2)-pin and when you click on the Specs tab it says that the PSU has two (6+2)-pin.

the asus 760 ONLY has 1 8pin power input. So in your case, you already have 1 8pin connector from your psu.

So you don't even need an adaptor.

As you stated, the asus website says you need 1 8pin connector (which is a 6+2pin)

To clarify, the 225W is under total power consumption; meaning your card will draw a MAX of 225W (150W from 8pin and 75w from pcie on your motherboard).
